One of the best ant movies of all time!
If you’re freaked out by ants, count yourself lucky, at least you’re not dealing with some sleazy real-estate developer in the Florida everglades and giant super-smart radioactive ants!
Empire of the Ants with Joan Collins and Robert Lansing (1977) may not be theee perfect movie for ant-phobes, but it IS totally fun.
The movie was very loosely based on the short story Empire of the Ants by H. G. Wells.
- FYI, as a promotional gimmick for the film, theaters would display ant farms in their lobbies – though they weren’t allowed near the concession counters.
- FYI-2, the director created some of the special ant-effects by shooting magnified images of the Panamanian bullet ant.
